Coconino County Parks and Recreation is seeking a Fair Superintendent for the Coconino County Fair.

Superintendents must be able to work all four days of the Fair as well as receiving, judging, outtake and Fair workdays. Superintendents are required to attend monthly planning meetings located at Fort Tuthill from January through August. Fair Superintendents manage their department's buildings, entries, and demonstrations. They are responsible for coordinating the recruitment of judges and volunteers and must supervise the assigned building during fair hours. Previous experience with Fairs is a plus but not necessary. Training is provided.

The 2025 Coconino County Fair dates are Friday, August 29th - Monday, September 1st. The fair is open 10:00 am - 10:00 pm Friday to Sunday and 10:00 am - 4:00 pm on Monday.

Under limited supervision, performs a variety of semi-skilled manual labor for support of the lessee events program.

Fair Superintendents will receive a $556.80 stipend upon completion of the Fair.For more information, please call 928-###-####.

Typical Duties

(Illustrative Only):

  • Attends monthly planning meetings located at Fort Tuthill from approximately October through August.
  • Must be available and assist with department receiving, judging, check in/weigh-in, outtake, and Fair Workday for your specific area.
  • Manage department buildings, Fair entries, and demonstrations.
  • Recruit and coordinate volunteers to help with barn duties and outreach during the fair.
  • Works cooperatively with the Jr. Livestock Committee and Coconino County Parks and Recreation staff to identify and coordinate judges.
  • Supervises the assigned building during fair work hours, approximately 7:30 a.m. - 9:00 p.m.
  • Effectively communicate with fair staff, volunteers, fair exhibitors, and the public.
Essential functions include but not limited to sitting, standing, in close vicinity people and livestock, walking and bending; twisting, lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling heavy loads up to 60 lbs.; working with and around event producers, supervisors, and other crew members; interruptions; repetitive motion (elbow/shoulder); vision acuity (near/far); hearing and speech for ordinary conversation; finger dexterity/touch. Environmental factors may include and not limited to work outside; noise exposure; use of mechanical devices; exposure to odors and dust.
Minimum Qualifications

Any combination of education, training and experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position. Final job offer will be contingent upon a satisfactory background check.

Additional Requirements:
Year-round residence inside Coconino County is required.

The ideal candidate will be an effective communicator, reliable, and passionate about youth development. Proactive, optimistic team player, and have a positive attitude with the ability to multitask.

Preferred qualifications: experience working with the public and customer service experience. Valid Driver's License; reliable transportation; experience working with youth for positions involving 4-H/FFA Club Work. Previous event or Fair experience.

- Supervising volunteers

- Deal effectively with stress caused by public contact
- Communicate effectively verbally and in writing with public
- Maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, fellow volunteers, and the public
- Work under limited supervision.
